Thought I'd post some good news...

We've been keeping a tight rein on the budget thees last few years. For about the last year we've been living on my income alone. Meanwhile, she's been working on her Masters so she can be a teacher. We've been doing well enough that we can still go out and have a steak once in a while and I'm not drinking cheap beer but it's still been tough.

Last week it all came together:

Tuesday:
My wife was offered a teaching job at a private school. It's about 20 minutes from our house and not much traffic headed in that direction. It'll be a good environment for a 1st year teacher as there will be less dicipline problems and more teaching going on. She's already got her keys to the classroom. She's only got 2 classes left to take and she's done. She's maintained a 4.0 gpa through her masters studies. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to bed and she was still up studying when I got up to go to work. I'm very proud of her and what's she's accomplished.

Friday:
I was offered the System Administrator's position at a local health care facility. It's only 5 minutes from my house. Hours are M-TH 8:00-5:00 and F 8:00-4:00. It's a significant improvement in work environment, salary, benefits, and vacation time. I'm working a month's notice in my current job. My boss hates to see me go but says he's happy for me. I've always been a hard worker, but I feel very fortunate for someone who doesn't have a college education.

I took delivery of a 2007 Nissan TITAN LE Crew Cab, Galaxy Black. It's the nicest vehicle I've ever owned bar none. My wife loves it too and is very happy for me. I'm still pinching myself.

Congratulations to the both of you.

A piece of advice for what its worth.....be patient with her. Teaching is much more stressful than you would think. At least that is what the wife tells me. :)

Re: Things are coming together finally...

i386,

Sounds like we are living parrallel lives. I just took a new job, as of last Monday after 15yrs with the same company. Less travel, more money, and a better opportunity for vacation, as my last position only afforded me like 6 days last year though I was owed 18 days + comp days. I left on good terms and my boss told me to call him if things don't work out. He flew in from the east coast to have a few beers and wish me well. I will miss him, as he made a tough job, somehow rewarding and manageable. My wife took a new job beginning of the school year as a 1st grade teacher, 3 miles up the road in the top rated school district in the state, and is currently working to finish up something like 9 more credits by summers end to get her to the next pay scale. (Masters +12) I took delivery of my (less than dream car, and yes, I am jealous of yours.) new car, Hyudai Sonata, two weeks ago.

It is like a new life, without moving! :) It is interesting to see how "lucky" people are when they work hard to get something. Congrats on your new found career path, and I wish nothing but good things to come your way. Enjoy the new truck, and look forward to hearing about everyone else's kids on a daily basis in the years to come! As for your new job, it sounds like a ton of responsiblity. Good luck! I am sure you will do great! Enjoy the bucks, and the bennies. You deserve them.

I'm with Phil here. I enjoy reading posts like this one.
They are few, and far between lately. Congratulations to you both.
As for the college paper, as long as the career is what you prefer to do, and it isn't prerequisite, who needs paper?
Nice truck too!

Congrats i386 and Mrs. i386! (And Pointer and Mrs. Pointer, also!) Who says hard work doesn't go unrewarded - sometimes just not as quickly as we would like it to happen! Best wishes on the new jobs - and I won't wish you good luck because I believe that it was hard work and diligence that got you here, and it will take you farther, as well! So enjoy the ride!

Congratulation 1386 on both of your achievements, and I will also add lots of luck on living with a certified teacher, as I havefor many years. She has spent many an hour ragging me on my punctuation, grammar, all for naught, as most on this board will attest, somehow I have managed to survive the attacks.:)
