step down pump????

I have this switch on a 86 searay 268 weekender up at the cockpit.When i turn it on i here something running back by the motor.I don't want to let it run too long till i know what it is.Anyone have a clue??

it's either the bilge pump or the vent fan that you turn on before starting the engine to get any gas fumes out, so it doesn't explode.

Thanks but i have seperate switches for blower and bilge.

i guess your going to have to get down there and see. could be a washdown pump, or who knows what the previous owner did.

well do.But it does look factory cause the switch is the same as all the rest and the wording type is the same also

It may be a factory switch but who know what someone has wired it to. Just have to crawl in there and see..;)

Maybe someone installed some RV steps on your swim platform that you don't know about yet.:D Or maybe you're raising and lowering your garage door on some poor lady's hood:D. Sorry, best I could do, never heard of a step down pump before. Maybe check with a Sea Ray dealer?

Becareful, that "Step Down Pump" may morph your Searay into a Bayliner.

well it seems that controls the another bilge pump that is located in the center of the boat..

From center to stern.

Could mean that it transfers the water from the center to the stern bilge; instead of pumping out the hull, it pumps to the stern where the bilge pump can push it outside the hull.​

So are there steps down into the cabin where this pump is located? Maybe the label wasn't so far off although you did say it was back by the engine.
