OMC Trim Question

I just boat an '89 Sunbird and it has the OMC 4.3 Engine it and the trim just stopped working while i was out on the water. I had to take the pin out of the hydraulics just to get it home. I tested every wire from the switch to the trim motor and everything was hot but still nothing. I left it alone went to bed and just decided to push the button this morning and it worked. To me, that would mean there is a short but if there is power to everything i dont know how it can be a short. Does anyone have any info that might help me out or possibly know if there is a way to manually trim the motor so I dont ruin another prop pulling it out of the water. Thanks in advance

Re: OMC Trim Question

When it wasn't working could you hear the trim pump running, did you try both up and down? If everything was hot when you tested then possibly you've got a flaky ground, what did you use for a ground reference when testing?

Your voltage test results notwithstanding, in my experience the 1st step in beating back boat electrical gremlins is to clean all the contact points starting at the battery.

Re: OMC Trim Question

There are trim solenoids that corrode very easy.Have you cleaned all the connections? Also you have a plug in connection about 4 feet of wire out from the pump that likes to corrode also.Clean every connection shiny clean, grounds also.Unhook the battery first or you will pop the 50 amp fuse..
