as all thats been following my boat repairs . i told shop to replace my bellows and trim pump . they gave me back a project boat. i went to a local outdrive repair shop and he sold me a really nice used trim pump..i put it on and it works great. my buddy said bob look at that big rip in the exhaust bellows..i thought he was playing with me...no such luck its all dry and the rip is super big. i asked these guys to replace it.. they told me time and time again it was good..
thursday i am going to
consumer protection affairs in my area in the court.
the fellow who gave this info today said they treat this like a crime...this county he said came up with the lemon law....we will see. as i am really looking forward to replacing my bellow..ya right

More good news.....Don't worry about the exhaust bellows until everything else is the way it should be. You can even run the boat with the bad bellows, it won't cause a problem.

Bob,

Can you PM me the name of the shop you had trouble with? I'm in NJ about 15 minutes from Philly and don't want to run into the shop you had problems with.

Thanks.

ya can run with ripped exhust bellows, but you may not run with the main driveshaft bellows ripped, or the shift cable bellows ripped. those would be a direct leak into the boat. the exhust bellows leak just leaks into the exhust system. which it does bellows or not.......thats the way i get it anyways......

You can't/shouldn't run the boat with a bad shift cable bellows or a bad drive shaft bellows. Both will allow water in the boat and can cause consequential damage.

It is OK to run the boat with a damaged exhaust bellows. It will need to be taken care of but make sure everything else is right first. That can be the last thing you fix.

these jerks talked me out of replacing these at least 5 times till it got to the point where what i said really did not matter. i will wait till all are replace to ride boat as i am scared it will sink..i swim great but i like the boat. i contacted the proper consumer protection affairs in person and writing.. who is going to look into this..i just want to fix my boat and have fun a refund would be nice. but a fixed boat at 90 degrees here would be finer

And to add to that you can even run without an exhaust bellows.

My brother (bought the Four Winns Liberator 211 new....powered by a High Technology OMC 460 King Cobra ) had a Corsa Capts call exhaust diverters installed about 10 or 12 years ago. The boat had thru hull exhaust and his wife said either make it quieter or get me another boat.

His "mechanic" installed the Y-pipe and diverters but did not install the exhaust bellows. Bother Mike ran the boat for another 10 years that way and never wondered why he got bubbles around the transom when idling!

I got the boat and said "wow did the exhaust bellows fall off?" He said "what's an exhaust bellows?"

The new one I installed had a lot of holes in it. (on purpose)

So, a tear in the bellows is no problem.....NO exhaust bellows is no problem....

Cheers,

Rick
