I have a 63 Big Twin 40 that I had to replace the shift fork and cradle. (wing dams offer no forgiveness). After putting it together I can't get it to shift to the forward gear. How do I adjust this? The gears and parts came from a 62 Lark 40.

Re: Evinrude 40 Shift problem

Assuming you have the internal lever, cradle, shifter dog, etc etc assembled as they should be, and have not changed any adjustments at the powerhead area.........

I would suspect that you do not have the upper and/or lower shift rods aligned as they should be with the bolt holes in the brass shift connector.

Thanks, I think I have it. The shift rod wasn't pushed all the way in. I will try to get it on the water this week to make certain everything works right.
