how to drill a hole in my boat

i'm installing an new out board on an older boat , what is the correct way to seal the bolt holes in the transom. i'd like to install install swim platform on my transom to do so i know i'll be drilling holes into the boat...how about the holes for a fishfinder.

You can drill the hole oversize and fill with epoxy. Then re-drill proper size hole through the epoxy plug. That should seal the edge grain of the wood. Use 3M 4200 to seal the bolt. That should do it.

A tip I picked up from a boat repair show: When you drill mounting holes for anything, countersink (bevel) the top of the hole about 1/16 inch. The sealer you put on fills the beveled area and acts like an O ring.

Hello!
I am interested more in the epoxy used in transom repair/replace.

What type of epoxy are you using. I can only find small quantities at hardware stores.
I can get a large 2pt mixture at an autobody place, is this the type everyone uses. And is this the same stuff that bonds the wood together for the transom.??
HELP!
