This is the the third thread I have started with my wellcraft that will not start in water for the other two you can read. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=198743
http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=199146

I got the starter part all fixed today I went back to the lake and I actually got it sarted 8 times in a row while it was in the water. I unhooked the 90's that go down to the y pipe from the risers and left them attached to the risers and just let them sit half way over the y pipe it ran great. So Know I guess I need to look at buying some tips and some pipe and mount some thru hull exhaust. What do you guys suggest getting that is resonable priced and pretty easy to hook it all up. Let me know what you think.

Well to keep the boating experience nice for every one else I am not going to do thru hull exhaust. I have the hole motor apart installing a marine cam in it tonight. So I sure hope that fixes the problem.

What's blocking the "Y" pipe seems to be the question that needs to be answered.

During disassembly did you check to see if the cam was in time? Was there any worn lobes on the cam?

Be sure to install new lifters with the new cam and use plenty break-in-lube on the cam and lifters.

Looking back on the threads; does it turn over while cranking? Pulling one plug... what is the compression ratio on that engine?

The motor cranks over with all the plugs in it. I have installed the new cam and lifters. Today when I get home time to break in the cam and lifters and take it to the lake and see If that fixes the problem. It had a pretty big cam in it It also was straight cut I think is what they call it when intake and exhaust are both the same numbers it also had a 108 lobe seperation my new one has 114 lobe seperation. Here is the specs of the cam I took out of it. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=LUN%2D00012&autoview=sku
I sure hope this fixes the problem.

Did you check the timing of the cam you pulled out? Was it set properly?

Yea I forgot to say yea I turned the motor to top dead center before took the motor apart and yes the two dots were in line on the cam. So I don't think that was the problem.

Re: problem starting number 3 what you think

You had said it was a "mild" street cam. 246 degrees duration at .050" lift is not what I'd consider mild. I would have to say that unless somebody did something to get the compression up to make up for the bleed off of that cam, you may have found your problem. Typically, on an engine designed to max at 5000 rpm, there should be about 216 -220 max at .050" and that's with a static compression of 9-1/2 or 10-1 which will end up giving you about 170 psi dynamic compression. The 114 lobe separation is going to make it a bit low on power down low though you may not notice it. I would have gone 110 or 112. The 114 should make it idle smooth as silk, though.

Ayuh,........ SN is Right,......
That Cam is Way Too Big............

I was thinking 214 to 218 @.050......
And,......
Everything I know,+ Read says that the LSA on a Boat should be between 109*,+ 112*............

With a 2500/ 6500rpm Power Band,.......
It'll be a Dog out of the Hole,+ your Outdrive doesn't really care for being run in Excess of 5000rpms,.... 5500, Maybe........
So the last 1500rpms is where the Unusable HP is........

Have you Pulled the Drive,+ Checked for any Restrictions,..??......

Like the guys said, you need torque not top end HP in RPM's you will never see. Also if you don't plan on thru hull exhaust, and a whole lot of other upgrades you need something a little more mild or you will have more issues then you started with.
