OK, I pretty much ready to throw the towel in. My top cylinder isn't working and there is gas and oil coming out of my exhaust. My carbs were just cleaned and I bought a brandnew power pack so spark and fuel should be good. I'm really not sure what happened but the boat was running fine one day and the very next day it started running on one cylinder. Is it possible that my piston ring fried over night? I need help! PLEASE!!!!!!!!
thank you
Andy

You need to do a compression test to determine if there is any internal reason it's not running right. Then make sure you have spark to the cylinders using a spark tester or a timing light hooked to the spark plug leads. The compression test will tell you if it fried...

Squeeze the fuel bulb after it gets firm and listen to the carbs. If you hear a lot of fuel flowing and you can still squeeze the buld without too much effort your float is stuck or needle/seat valve is bad and the motor is flooding. Had the same issue with my '92 40hp last year.

Rick,
Thanks for your post I checked the compression and I had only 30psi on the top and 60 on the bottom. I'm thinking about taking the head off and taking a look to see if it might be something minor(rings, seals, etc.). Is the process of doing that something that only pro's should do? I really do appreciate your opinion.
thank you,
Andy

would anyone know what a mechanic might charge to pull head and replace rings and gaskets? What's typical as far as #of hours to do this job.
thank you
