Trim tilts up automatically

The trim goes up by itself. We tried bypassing the switch, the down worked, but the up is still stuck. The switch at the motor and the switch at the control won't make it go down but the switch at the front console near the trolling motor will make it go down.

It is a 94 Mercury Mariner 60HP.

Any help is appeciated.

The bow switch is the likely culprit. Disconnect all and try each separately.

The bow switch is likely wired through a haywire harness that runs up the starboard side. A short anywhere in that wire, like an anchor sitting on it, could cause this.
Disconnect the bow switch completely. If that doesn't free it up, check out that harness.

Bow switch was the culprit, replaced it and all worked fine until about 1 week ago, now the switch on the motor is the only one that works - Based on the logic from the last post I assume that I should replace the motor switch?

yeah maybe so but sounds to me as if there is a short in that harness causing the switches to go bad. It is all too ironic to have 2 switches go out at almost the same time and not have a reason for it follow me?
