Re: Kiekhaefer Merc 300 Couple ??s
i know you probably don't want to get a manual if your going to sell it. might sell better with one. do some impeller searchs on here and you'll come up with lots of questions from people stuck. not familiar with your motor but here are basics. put motor in forward gear and lift motor up so you have room to drop lower. you can leave prop on but safer to take off in case you drop unit. should be 2 nuts over housing on front sides and maybe one behind, as well as one under trim tab mount. remove rear ones, then loosen front ones as you pull unit down. sometimes you have to jar unit with rubber hammer or hammer on a board to break free. keep loosening nuts till it can fully drop. the water tube usually pulls outta the block with the unit. couple different style pumps, but usually 3 nuts holding top on, around driveshaft. hopefully you got waterpump kit instead of just an impellor so you can change gaskets. impellor just pulls up off shaft, there is usually a very small shaft key in there that sits on flat spot of shaft, don't loose it. if impeller is frozen you can try to split with a chisel. usually when i've chisled it a couple times it starts to free up. found that marking it with chisel is good as it marks the top so you are sure which direction veins of impellor were folded for reassembly, if it has any veins left. for reassembly, you can put a little lube around impellor so it turns free on start up, and change all gaskets on water pump upper half to be safe. put everything back togethor the was you found it. if the impellor was in pieces, you may be wise to hook up water tube and flush out, ensuring you have flow through pee hole. putting the unit back on is easier with a third hand, to hold while you line up tube and shifter. if drive shaft doesn't engage, slide on prop and move slightly till engages. slowly tighten front housing nuts as unit moves up in position.
not familiar with this motor, so somethings may be slightly different, and i mighta forgot a couple tricks by rattling this off outta my head.
