I have a 50 hp mercury outboard, 2 stroke, that has set through the winter
went to try and start it but the motor acted like it was froze up, can't get the fly wheel to turn at all, even with the pull rope on it. got any idea's to what can be wrong.

Thank You

Re: Motor won't crank

Try pulling the spark plugs and squirting some PB Blaster in the cylinders, let it sit a couple of hours, then try to turn the flywheel, but not with brute force. If a ring is stuck and it breaks, you could scar the cylinder wall. If it was running before you parked it it is most likely condensation in the cylinder sticking the rings to the cylinder wall. Good Luck

also if that doesn't work drop the lower unit. it could be froze up, and not allowing the shaft to turn. did you check the lower for water before the winter sleep? fixing the lower is a lot cheaper than a powerhead.
