outdrive interchange

Ok I have a 76 mercruiser 165 pre-alpha and I have found an outdrive from a 89 alpha-1 gen. 2 with the same ratio. Will I be able to use the newer drive on my older setup? thanks Clayton

if it's a gen 2 drive. i don't believe it will interchange. alpha1 gen 1 will interchange though......but ya need the short shaft for the drive for the long L6 engine. that's the way i understand it anyways......

Ayuh,........ Ziggy has it Right,.........

The Alpha 1 is a Good Swap, if you use the Short or 8" Input Shaft......
The older Pre-Alpha In-Line motors used the Short shaft,......
The V-motors use the regular 9" shaft.......

And,.... The Alpha Gen.II is a Different animal all together......

Ok so if the aplha 1 has a 9 inch shaft, can I use the shaft off the pre-alpha?

yes, i believe thats where ya can get the short shaft at. off the old pre-alpha drive.......assuming it's seviceable.......
