86 johnson 110 tach

i was looking at some other posts and at the tach on the back it has alt, 12v, and gnd not sure if it even goes with a johnson it is a 83 hydra sport boat and i think a merc. came on it ,not sure. on the throttle/shifter below the ign. there is a 3 prong female plug does the tach harness, when i get one go here?

tach harness plugs into the control box below the keyswitch will have 3 wires - purple to 12V, black to gnd, and gray to alt. If that doesn't work maybe we can figure it out. Does the tach have a rotary switch with something like "6p" "12p" "4c" "6c" on it? if so set it to 6p. if the boat came with a 4-stroke merc, it might not work, but I bet that's not the case.

the is no harness but it does have a 3 plug on the remote on the back is a 4 at bottom and 6 at top but dont see anything that i can turn thanks for the help

i have a 1986 johnson 110 horse and i would like to hook up a tach to it can anyone help?? i have a us marine tach from another boat and will it work?? any help appreciated ty

Force motors (which were made by US Marine) require a special setting when hooking up a universal tach such as this one http://www.iboats.com/Tachometer_7K...5726546--**********.583873859--view_id.169240 to them. Whereas my Johnson was fine with the default setting (6pole I think). So my concern is that your US Marine tach might be made specifically for a Force and won't work with your Johnson.
