I have about a 78 johnson 55 hp, and when driving the motor runs great then all of a suddent he primer ball sucks in and stalls out the motor, then I have to disconnect the fuel line and push in the ball bearing to all allow the ball to return to shape, then the motor runs fine again for a few minutes and then it repeats. it only seems to do so at mid to upper rpms... any help will be much appreciated. also I thought it was the vent cap on the gas tank, so I removed it completely, but the problem persists.

thx Randy

Re: 55hp johnson

You either have
a) a faulty primer bulb, or
b) a faulty fitting on the tank or the tank end of the hose, or
c) an obstruction upstream of the bulb, like some kind of debris in the tank getting sucked up against the inlet at high speed.

If you get a new bulb, spend the extra $7 or so to get genuine BRP or other name brand - those aftermarket bulbs have a reputation for lack of durability.
