Re: 1973 Johnson 100 hyd-elec shift problems
You said "What do I do from here????? PLEASE " You should never have gotten that far without checking a bunch of other stuff first. First thing to check is the oil in the gearcase. It has to be full and of the right stuff and no water. The oil is the hydraulic fluid that actually does the shifting. The solenoids operate the control valves that direct the hydraulic oil. The solenoids are energized by the shift switch....which is the second thing you should have checked. With everything connected, yuo need 12 volts on the green wire when in neutral and 12 volts on both the green and blue wires when in reverse. No voltage on either wire when in forward.
Well now, going back and re-reading your story, I see that you said the prop wouldn't spin. Are you saying that it's stuck in neutral? That's a whole different story. Assuming there is no voltage in forward gear as mentioned above, that means the piston is stuck in the cylinder bore of the oil pump. Caused by dirty oil. The oil pump is clear up in the front nose of the gearcase. Complete disassembly is required to get at that.
