O.k. I have noticed on a bunch of newer motors that they all have this lovely telltale spray that lets ya know the waterpump is working.

my question is should there be one on a 62 ohnson 40hp? or does it just spit water out the exhaust?

Also if there isn't one, can one be installed?

thanks in advance.

it spits out the exhaust, there is a way to install one, it involves drilling a hole in just the right place, tapping the hole with treads, and installing a fitting and hose. i've never done one so thats as far as i will go with this.

There is a water hose from the top of the cylinder, runs up across the top edge of the recoil starter, and to the top of the hot water choke housing. Remove the hose elbow from the cylinder, insert a suitable 1/8" NPT tee and a second nipple for a second hose. Route the second hose out wherever as a tell tale. You probably should restrict the telltale hose somewhat so you don't divert too much water.
