We have a 68 55hp evinrude, we completely redid the lower unit, carb kit, and it had some wires broken so we replaced them, but when we try to start it nothing happens, have tried everything we can think of. any suggestions please
Not knowing whether you have looked at these items,my recommendation is to perform a spark test and a compression test at cranking speed and see what you find.
just found out ignition switch is bad, compression and spark tests were fine, now engine is turning over but not started. we are kind of wondering if it is wiring problem, will go buy book tomarrow for it.
yes it should still spark as long as the kill switch is in the run position. to do a compression test remove all plugs open throttle and crank engine 5-7 times. it should be 90-110 psi on all cylinders and there should not be much difference in pressures between the cylinders.
when we use the ignition switch nothing-- so we jumped the starter solenoid with a wire and engine cranks good, but however found out last nite no fuel is getting to the carbs, so off today to buy filter kit (diaphram looked bad) dont know what the problem is with the switch, going to get wiring diagram to see if something is not hooked up correctly, have spark and compression on motor.
