Tempest Plus on a 150XR2 Technical Question

A friend here at work is letting me try his brand new 23P Tempest Plus on my 86 Mercury 150XR2. After spinning the hub on my old Quicksilver 23P I am looking to try something newer.

Anyway, I installed the Tempest Plus, torqued it down to 55lbs, and I have about 1/4" of clearance between the blades and that triangular fin that helps control torque steer. Is this anything to worry about or should I have more clearance?

Thanks.

That is what I have for clearance on my 150; ss blades don't really flex too much so it shouldn't be an issue.

Let us know how the tempest compares, it has lots of rake so it should be a noticible difference.

Re: Tempest Plus on a 150XR2 Technical Question

I tried the Tempest Plus this weekend but it is a dogg out of the hole with my set up. Until the engine reaches 3000RPM, it bogs really bad. I guess the larger diameter is the cause? On the top end I picked up 4 MPH at 5500 RPM (61MPH vs 57MPH).

I am going to have my old Quicksilver repaired and try it again. The Tempest Plus may go up for sale unless anyone has some ideas on how to get the it to work.

Thanks.

Raise the engine a half inch at a time and you my get close to 65MPH.
