I'm trying to remove the lower unit and it appears to be stuck. All the bolts have been removed to include the one under the exhaust snout. The shift linkage has been disconnected and it appears to be loose but I can't get it to drop down. What ideas do you have to get the unit to drop down? The engine is a 1972 chrysler 70.

Re: Chrysler Lower unit

When I removed mine form my force, I had to do some jiggling as I pulled down on it to get it to break loose.

I have a 130 Chrysler and have the same problem. Removed all bolts and shifter linkage and the unit wont drop. It seems to be loose and pivoting on the drive shaft. I am shaking/twisting and applying down force and it wont budge. Let me know if anyone has an answers.

Re: Chrysler Lower unit

try a block of wood and a big hammer, thats my favorite :)

did you get it to crack yet? if you can get it to separated (i knew i got my separated because some water leaked out) i missed the bolt in the exhaust.

a lot of people have problems with the driveshaft rusting into the engine. If you've got it separated this is likely your problem.

Thanks Mark, Its definitely loose but i'm pretty sure the drive shaft is rusted in the engine. I will try to work it out.
