Gear Lube Leak from Alpha 1 OutDrive

Hi

I have just "re-aquired" a previous boat. 1989 Merc 5.0 + Alpha 1
As it sits now only 2 days in my driveway with the outdrive in trailer position, gear lube drips every few seconds into a now very large puddle.

Understandably, this is bad, but how do I proceed "fixing IT" MYSELF?
The recent owner ensures me that the dealer just "serviced" the drive.
This is problematic becuase that dealer is 300 miles away..

The attached pictures show the first place that oil is visible, and it's color.
It appears to be leaking at the end of this plastic component attached to a small shaft.

Question 1: IF'n i run it for a day in the water, what are the chances that water will end up in the drive...

Question 2: How do I get started? Is there a good source for service manuals on this drive?

I saw several references in other posts to pressure tests, but no references on how to perform a pressure test.

Also, with a leak this large, I'm thinking I might find the problem easier.

Any advice is appreciated.

Additional Note: No leak when out of trailer position - EG Normal Trim Positions
Could This be "normal" ? or due to overfilling?
