i posted a while back about boat having a rough idle when starting. dealer installed motor and did things incorrectly. i have been fixing things one by one.

the problem is when you start boat its hard to start. when you get it to start you have to run it at 2k rpms min. electric choke on muffs to keep it running after a while it will warm up then it will run fair at 1k rpms.
i am going to check firing order sunday. timing. wires. adjust carb i tried that a few days ago while messing around and it got a tad better. but idle is not like it shoud be.and starting is bad for a new motor with all new bolt on's. everying is new but the p/s pump.
i have timing light
book, manual
vacumn gauge
dwell meter compression gauge. any idea will be a great help

Ditto - start with idle and choke settings.

Ayuh,......

It needs Voltage whenever the motors Running,..... Off the coil is Fine.......

I think you'll find 3 little screws around the housing,.. Loosen them,+ the housing turns......

Checking your firing order isn't going to be the problem, if it idles ok when warm. If the wires were crossed it would run bad ALL the time.
With a cold engine NOT running, open the trottle to about 1/2 way.
Loosen the 3 screws around the choke coil. turn the inner housing of the choke clockwise till the choke just closes. Tighten the screws down.
It still won't idle like your EFI car will when cold, and it will probably take some rpm (1200 to 1500 rpm) to keep it running for the first minute or two, but when warmed up, you should idle down to 700 rpm MAX with no problem. You may also need to adjust the idle mixture screws and the idle rpm screws to get it right.

180. thats how i feel working on boat in hot sun verses being in water for the forth. don gave great smart sense to say take time and get it ready for next year..but i feel in 3 weeks i will be ready for a water test. not 100% but safe and ready. next year i can change out that wrong 1.84 drive or gears to 1.47-1.5 -1 . but i should be able to get 1.5-2 months out of it. and next year get it perfect. but it will not go in water till i know it safe. because the guy was a total hack. you name it . he messed it up and took 6 months to do so. my d/s bellows were fair so i think i am ok for this year . but exhaust are shot. but can still take a ride in it..45 yrs old on the 4th . will not be bummed out at least its sunny today
