Listing has been removed. How much did he want for it?

That's cheap. Go price a new 35hp outboard. Someone will get this one going, put it on a restored classic boat and have a showpiece.

Doesn't seem like all that much to me.

Re: Oh My God Brand New 1957 Evinrude

I hear you. With the cost of purchase, the cost of shipping, the cost of all those parts you ended up buying, and the value of your labor, you're probably about right. With iboats selling used 40 hp outboards for $3500-3900, a brand new 1957 35hp is sounding pretty good.

BTW, the condition of the rubber parts will really depend on how it has been stored. If it's been out of the light, in a coolish place, most of the rubber will still be OK. The biggest enemy of rubber is ultraviolet light and ozone.

If I had it, I'd fill that pressure tank with 24:1 and fire that sucker up.

I'm thinking that it'd go really nicely on a 1957 Herter's Fin boat. Outrageous.

Did you see the special Mercury transom for two and a half dollars extra? Packing cost ten dollars? Ahhh--the good years!

Actually, someone was selling the 1962 version of that boat on eBay last week. I didn't see what the final price was, but with just two days left, it had only reached about $350, and that was with the original Herter's trailer.

Notice that it's called the Eldorado. It was patterned after the Caddilac of the day, I believe.

I almost bid on the one on eBay, but it was too far away for me to reasonably go and pick it up.

Herter's fiberglass boats, even then, hadn't a bit of wood in them. They were a bit flimsy, but actually held up pretty well. There's quite a following for them among 50s fin boat collectors.

Notice the Johnson Big Twin on the transom of this boat. That brand new one would be a perfect match for one of these little runabouts.

For those of you who may have missed it (due to your age) '57 was about the time the auto industry went nuts with tail fins the natural evolution of which found it's way into the boating industry.....just about the time fiberglas was coming on line. Timing was perfect for new bed partners.
Go to the FiberGlasics site on www and you can see lots of different ones.
