i have here a 1992 evinrude 120vy that wont pull out of forward easily.you have to go towards reverse a little and then back to get it.i had it at 1 place that installed new controls.no help.another place that the measurment for the shift rod must be off.one turn brought it back to spec.no help.but once it warms up a little it works perfectly.changed the oil in lower unit.all they had was mercruiser blue high performance oil.they said that was fine.anybody seen this symtom before.itsw getting expensive. on the muffe its fine only does it in the lake.thanks

sounds out of adjustment or a cable going bad.

I bet your idle is set just a little bit too high, or your "Quick Start" is making it hard to shift until the motor warms a little and it comes out of "Quick Start" mode.

"Quick Start" is incorporated into your power pack and automatically advances the timing to speed up the idle on a cold start. You should be able to hear the idle speed slow down when the "Quick Start" shuts off. It should run at fast idle for only 5 seconds or so with an OMC powerpack. Afetrmarket powerpacks may run quick start a little longer.
