I Just Purchased A 95 Bass Tracker With A Mercury 115 Oil Injection System On The Motor. Some People Has Said The Oil Injection Has Had Problems And That I Should Purchase A Kit To Close The Injection System Down And Just Mix My Own Fuel 50:1 . Is This Something I Should Concern Myself About Or Is The Oil Injection System On These Motors Ok?

Re: Mercury 115 Oil Injection System

My personal opinion is simple. If it is not broke, why fix it. I have been a Merc oil injection since 1989 w/o any major problems. It is a very reliable system.

Re: Mercury 115 Oil Injection System

I have a 95 model 115 Mariner (same motor) with oil injection that I bought new and have had no problems.

The only issue is that there is no warning light or buzzer if the oil pump fails. There is a buzzer for low oil in the reservoir, but that's one of those things that you already have control over!

I agree with gss036 about leaving well enough alone.

The oil warning module keeps track of the oil pump. If it quits sending pulses while the engine is running, which signal it gets from a switchbox, it'll let you know.

I mix about 150:1 with my tank gas, just as insurance. It is possible to break the oiler at wot and hurt the motor before you can react. A little in the gas is just insurance at very little cost.

Can the oil injection system pump too much oil into the engine? At the end of last season I started to see quite a bit of blue smoke coming from my engine at start-up and for a few minutes thereafter. :(

Re: Mercury 115 Oil Injection System

There several 2 psi check valves in the system, chances are one if malfunctioning allowing oil to seep by under pressure. Do a search and you will find many posts on this subject, read through and get an understading of the system and then do the troubleshooting.
