I've been messing around with props trying to find the best fit. The boat is a 1992 Maxum 2300 SCR with 5.7L 230 HP Mercruiser. Well, I finally found that the original specs called for a 16X16 prop, so I ordered one from iboats. Motor rpms are supposed to be between 4200-4600. Can any speculate how this prop may work out for me. I did try a 4 blade 14X19, but I could only get 24 knots and wot was 3600. I'm looking for a cruising speed of 25-30 knots. Is that a realistic goal?

Thanks All.

Re: 5.7l 230hp 16x16?

Is there enough room on an alpha for a 16" diameter? I have 14.5 diameter on my alpha and there's not much room left.

My 5.0 turns a 14 x 19 at 4800 rpm on a 25' boat. When is the last time your boat had a full tuneup? Points, plugs, timing, carb adjust etc... How is the compression?

assuming the 16x16 is a 3 blade I would say 30 knots is very possible. With that prop you should see a dramatic increase in RPM's and performance. I am just not sure that a 16" diameter will fit on an alpha 1 - I use 14.5 or 15" diameter for mine and that is what most reccomend.

This is my 1st season with the boat. I'm going to run some Sea Foam thru it and check the plugs. Not sure when it was tuned up. The specs I found on the Merc site stated it came with a 16X16. I sure hope it fits.

Thanks for the help!.

Start with a complete tuneup. I think you already have the right prop, but it's on a poorly running motor.
