HI all. i am new to the forum so bear with me. I have a 1982 merc 470 4 cyl. The problem i am having is that i keep burning holes in my points. i have replaced the wires, coil, points, condenser, rotor, and cap. I have an after market alternator conversion kit that has been on the boat in the past with no problems. When the key is in the "on" position i have power to both the positive and negative sides of the coil. The boat will typically start and run perfectly for approx 30 second then die with no pre-death indicators. I have been reading that there is a resistance wire that runs from the negative side to the carb electric choke mechanism. i have no not checked that yet. I also replaced the wire running from the distributor (points) to the coil (due to corrosion). Is there any resistance needed through that wire? the wiring diagram shows the one from the carb as being the only resistance wire. Please help!!! i am sure its something simple!
