Whats the general take out there on these classic wooden boats?..ie: Chris Craft, etc?
Are they a constant source of work and maintenance?
I've seen a few around and they are pretty cool....and I would consider one. Another interesting bonus is my wife really likes them....which would bode well on purchase day.
I drove one years ago...and it was a damn sweet old cruiser. However this time I would target one of those inboard runabouts.
Any feedback on this....or are these for avoiding unless you want to spend your summer with a varnish brush in your hand?

I suspect you know the answer to this already. Owning a classic has to be a labor of love (errrr..... or is it love of labor???) - - else go plastic.

theres nothing wrong with wood boats atal.yes they do take some extra work and care theres no doubt about that .there are loyts of clubs and such out there for the woodboat lover.i was looking at some classic criscrafts yesterday and depending on the year and model they ranged for 16,000 to 100,000 u.s. with about 35 to 50 grand being the average.you can also by bran new replics for a pretty penny also. now depending on what you looking for you might want to check out giesler boats out of powasson ontario canada they make new wood boats of various sizes and are beautiful and resonably priced.i mean in or under 15 grand most are well under.

.......lots of labour involved..hmmm. I am a glutton for punishment sometimes on this kind of stuff, but I'll have to think on this some more.
When you see one out on a lake tho'...they really stand out with some class. I love the high swank wakeboard/ultra tower stuff....sure, but you can't swing a cat on a lake these days without hitting one. A bit old hat now.
Yeah, it needs a bit of thought. I don't want to spend my summer working of worrying about my boat.

Two ways to own a wooden boat:
If you have lots of time and enjoy working on it, go for it.
If you have lots of money and don't mind paying someone else to work on it, go for it.

If you have neither money, nor time, don't bother, it'll never get wet...
