This morning while fishing my engines rpm dropped, engine warning light came on and the temp began to rise. I checked to see if I picked up a plastic bag, I didn't and also to see if I was pumping water out the "****-ah" which I was. The question is, if it is the water pump on its way out, could it still pump enough water out the ****-ah to make it look like it is operating normal but not enough to cool the engine or could it be something like the thermostat?

Any info would help greatly. I really don't want my boat is the shop in the middle of July

thanx

Could be most anything. When did you last replace the water pump and t-stats? With the rpms dropping and the horn going off you have/had a problem. If it were a bag the cooling should return to normal with the bag gone. Test it - if it still overheats bite the bullet & don't run it until it is fixed.

the pissah, is an indicator that the impeller is pumping, not that the engine is cooling. if the thermostat is stuck the engine will not cool. the tstat controls the cooling. the impeller is just the pump. i think it's time for tstats, and impeller. better safe than have a melted heap of useless metal.

Yes and yes.
