And when I say new, this time I mean new, not new to me, new to the water.
Quick history of my boat ownership -
1. 1988 Bayliner Capri. Blew the motor first time out, with the help of folks here (thanks again Bondo, as much as you loathed bayliners you always gave me sound advice!!!) I managed to replace the engine in my back yard (3.0L OMC) and the boat served me well until I sold it to move up to....
2. 1997 Wellcraft Excel Walkaround. Bought it from a very responsible owner in 2004, no problems with it from the day I bought it to the day I sold it. Awesome boat, no complaints, never intended to sell it this soon, but.....
3. 2005 Parker 2520SL Sport Cabin. Here's the story (give me a minute here....)
Ever since I saw one I have wanted a pilot house boat. C-hawk, Parker, Steiger, Maycraft, wouldn't really matter. However I have always had a soft spot for the looks of the Parkers. They just look good to me. I can spot one a mile away and know it's a Parker.
I owned boat #2 above, and my dad had a 2001 Aquasport 20' center console. We keep both boats at his house, he has a bulkhead on a lagoon down here. We used to live about 70 miles apart, I had my boat up in Raritan bay and his down here in Great Bay. But I moved down here in 2005 and both boats ended up down here. Since we usually go out together anyway, it was overkill to have the 2 boats.
My dad a few months ago started looking at pilothouses in the 21-23' range. One day a couple months ago, he brought home the parker booklet and was showing me the 23' pilot house, talking about what the dealers were giving him for a trade in on his aquasport, etc. I could tell he was serious. So as we were talking about the prices and all, I made the off the cuff comment that we could probably afford the 25', together, if I sold my boat and he traded his in. Long story short, about 3 weeks later, Cecil Marine of Williamstown, NJ delivered our new 2520SL. The boat was a leftover, brand new, and without being specific, I have yet to see a used 2005 2520SL listed for less than we paid for this new one. Some of the quotes we had on 23 footers were more than we paid for this 25. I ended up taking a few bucks less than I wanted for my boat in exchange for selling it in less than 2 weeks, but the guy who bought it loves it so at least I know it went to a good home.
I've spent the last 3 weeks installing toys on the new boat using some of the proceeds from my wellcraft sale.
Here she is, the "Channel Surfer". My mother came up with the name.
Installed the Garmin 3210 MFD, Radar, VHF, stereo, speakers and flow meter myself at the dock, during the heat wave of last week of all times. Came out pretty good if I do say so myself.
Marina installed my Humminbird Matrix 47 3D from my old boat, and the Lewmar 700 Pro windlass before they delivered the boat.
Wish us luck, I really expect this to be the last boat I buy for a long, long, long time. It really is a dream come true for me.
