I am building a boat, 13ft marine ply speedboat weighing approx 210lb ,and am trying to power it with a 16HP briggs and stratton vertical shaft engine coupled to a johnson outboard lower leg that I purchased off ebay.
The gearbox is inj good nick. Gears and bearings are in excellent shape. I am going to bolt the gearbox through the boat using the cavitation plate as a flange.

I am trying to identify the exact age of the gearbox to get O rings and seals.
I may be as old as 1970's. Can anybody help?
It has only 3 bolts holding on the impellor housing and has a non throgh exhaust prop. It also has no thrust bearing on the prop shaft.

Please help.
Regards
:) Dave

the gears and some other pieces from my lower units had part numbers on them - you could try using whatever part numbers you can find to narrow down the age - use the part finder on the BRP website to compare.

Also, pics would help.

The 18-20-25 series was made for a lot of years. Pretty hard to narrow it down without a model number.
