I bought a 220B Angler that I was looking at for a few weeks. It has 2 115hp 2002 Merc EFI 4 strokes.
The problem is with 120 gal of fuel, and 2 people on board, I cannot get over 4800-5000rpms, depending on sea conditons before they begin to slip. Both motors have the hydrofoils on. They also slip on sharp turns with the engines trimmed all the way down.Currently runnnin 15P Blackmax. Are the fins causing the slippage during turns and while running.
My mechanic is telling me to put on honda 4 blades. Any Suggestions on props and pitch??
Thanks

Re: Prop Question

Not an expert but I assume you mean ventilation when you say slip.
I think a prop with more cup would help not sure where the Black Max fits in..Usually a Stainless prop will perform better than aluminum.
Stainless are heavy and strong and can be hard on gearcases especially if you hit something. But no question they perform better.
Depending on your present max RPM you may have to go down in pitch when you go to stainless.
Usually a prop dealer will let you test props if you intend to buy.
I'm sure some one will be along with much better info than I.
Get rid of the "fins"Use something like Smart tabs.
"fins" do help in some cases but Something like smart tabs Are very much better. They improve hole shot, improve ride, improve no wake speed control, improve planing speed at reduced throttle.

Re: Prop Question

Strange when you said that you had it trimmed all the way down and still got the slippage. I think when you get new props you will see a difference. Now the 4 blade you will get more bite and sacrifice the top end speed. But I shouldn't be too much.
