Re: Throttling up motor dies.........

You need to provide a bit more info. Does it do this just when warm or all the time? Presumably it runs OK once underway. It's a Johnson right?

Could be a link and sync problem, i.e. the sync. of ignition advance with throttle opening. They need to be set up just right otherwise you can get this problem. Could also be a carb problem. Maybe idle jets too lean.

One thing you should check is that the timing plate is rotating freely. This motor uses the OIS optical ignition system. The timing plate is mounted on top of the flywheel under a plastic cover. The optical timing sensor is attached to a rotating plate which rotates in a plastic track. Take off this cover and operate the throttle linkage by hand and check that the plate rotates freely and returns to stop position smoothly under spring tension.

runs fine otherwise...........do you mean she dies if you put the hammer down from a standing start? Can you get her up to WOT at all? Before you order your carb kits, check the throttle/spark syncronization like seasport describes, also note that the timer plate has to start moving *before* the throttle valves start to open else she'll fall flat on her face.

Might also check the fuel lines.......does the fuel line hold pressure? Is the tank vent open? Fresh fuel?

Have you done a compression test recently?

No other symptoms? Any recently completed maintenance?
