What is the best way to get this ring off? The bolts are off, the picture was taken before hand.

I would just tap it with a soft blow hammer. Once you have removed the bolts it should just come off. Maybe corrosion is keeping it on. A few light taps should do the trick.

Good luck

I'll go beat on it some more I guess....after I spray about a gallon of WD-40 around it.

If you look at your picture, there are 3 threaded holes (only 2 are visible in pic) used to pop the ring off.
Just pull the 6 bolts and screw three of them in the threaded holes, then tighten evenly till the ring lets go.
Beating on it won't do anything but break things.

I believe I removed it from the outdrive end. Clean out the grease. You can remove the outer seal. Inside you will see two or three snap rings. One holds the shaft on the bearing, and the other secures the bearing in the housing. Once you have removed the grease they will be easy to see. Remove them and then you should be able to tap the shaft out with a soft hammer, use a drift to remove the bearing, then you can remove the other seal. When you are replacing the bearing, I have heard other suggest using a sealed bearing, that way you do not have to worry about greasing it.

Good luck and have a great day,

Rob.
