Michelin is consistantly an excellent product throughout their line.

For the vehicles that need a stouter tire, a little more aggressiveness, BFG All Terrain's work very well.

Goodyear's are consistantly noisey, square and makes me feel sorry for those that have them.

Re: New tires for Suburban - Recommendations

Just an update.. I put on the Mich LTX about a month ago and went on my roadtrip and so far have put about 5K on them. When I first drove them I could not beleive how much quiter they were. When doing close to 80 across montana and ND, quiet is good. I am very pleased and would so far recommmend them to anyone. I am anticipate a long life of them as well.

Just a funny story.. We were driving across montana and had to cut off the interstate and head north to the high line Hwy 2. We stopped for gas in Circle, Mt (the definition of the middle of nowhere). This kind of reminded me of Mayberry. It was full service and they were all sitting in the gas station yacking it up. it was clear, we were not from there. In fact some kid came by on his bike and asked my son where we were staying.

Well we all took a potty break and when I went back to the car there was a guy on an ATV sitting there and he says to me: 'Hey could you tell me how much you paid for your tires??' The tires still looked pretty new as I had put them on the day before. I said 'Oh about $180 a tire' He paused and considered that and said 'Nice looking tires' I got in and drove off. But for some reason I thought this was pretty funny. Somehow I got the feeling we were entertainment for at least a couple minutes.

Now some bad tire news. The tires I put on my Expedition only two years ago and 22K miles need to be replaced already. They were Yokohama Geolander AT+/2 tires. Pure crap. They were always noisy and rode like crap. The previous tires Bridgestone Dueller HLs last well over 60K.

My current set of LTX's have about 50k on them with well over half the tread life to go.The key word is rotate every 7500 miles. I used to be Goodyear or Bridgestones before i bought my first set of Michelins..

Michelin LTX

Bridgestones are not my favorite either.

....Ditto on the Michelins. Great tire, in all likelihood the best. As well, I'm not 100% on the Bridgestone stuff. I'd pass on the Goodyear products for a couple more years while the get their act in gear.

I would have thought load rating would have come into play on this thread, but no one even mentioned it.

Yokohama Geolanders period. My family runs the same brand on dump trucks they run and i have ran them on all my trucks. Way better then anything i have used before. BF good mud terrians i used to use but they wore out way too fast for the price.

Last forever, good traction, a little noisy, but i have some that are 6 years old on my Daily driver 89 Blazer with 33x12.50's and still have plenty of tread. the back two i had to replace after meeting a hidden t post in the mud and ripping one sidewall 4 wheeling. took the other and made a spare out of it. Damn good tires. you won't regret running them.

All I can say is I have a set of the factory original Firestone something or the others load range "E" on my '01 2500 Suburban that just hit 92,000 miles. I'm looking at the tires if they will get me through the winter or not. They still have 1/32" above the inspection bars. Best tires I have ever owned. I go in the sand at the Outter Banks every year and I tow a 28' wellcraft Nova III at around 8000 lbs all totaled. I also haul 2 tons of wood pellets every fall in one load. I will buy another set if they still make them. Smooth running and very quiet. Never spun a tire on any of the ramps and don't have to use 4wd. But it is a locker rear. Oh. yeah, and I haven't rolled it yet, either.
