Merc lower,disassembly problems

1964 mer 650 (65 Hp) lower unit
trying to remove to change water pump.

Where is shift shaft connect that needs to be unhook ?
Can not get the trim tab off, sockets will not fit in casted hole of motor shell?
Is it hex net holds trim tab / use allen wrench to remove or just case of ,motor that make look like that?


I know where all bolts are to be removed from lower to drop it from manual.

You need to get the trim tab off as the is a nut under it use a long 5/15 allen wrench thru the hole your talling about. It shift shaft is splined and just slips apart

take a flash light and a small pick and clean out the centre of what looks like the bolt for the trim tab. you'll see the allen socket. took me a bit to find mine, manual just said use socket and remove bolt. damn seloc manuals lol
