Re: Very Unique Outboard Question - Need Help

looks like a neat ramp in front ya got

Ayuh,.......... And I'm Danm Proud of That Too........
Here's alittle better shot of it,......
f17879.jpg

The Difference between What I Designed,+ What Mark built is,.. That I wanted to run the Hyd. cylinders Horizonally, so the bilge would be sealed by solid Steel.....
Mark mounted the rams Vertically,+ surrounded them with Rubber Gaskets..... I see that as a needless Failure point.......There's ALOT of water being pushed in,+ around that area when you're going over about 7mph.....

In the center photo,...
You can just see the Ramp of another barge on the left of the pic,.. It's like Every other barge on the river,... Cable winched Up,+ gravity down.... It's a B!tch to Load, because when you drive upon to it, the added weight of what you're driving causes the barge to Launch back into the river, unless it's securely lashed to the shore......
That was 1 of the major problems I was addressing for Mark,...... Even though All the river rats that Mark talked to said it would Never Work, I convinced Mark to let us build it as a Hyd. power ramp,....

It Works Perfectly....
You nose it up to the shore, lower the ramp, power it Down,+ it's like driving on Concrete......
Nothing Moves...

The Hyd. Ramp, the Concave Bottom,+ the Flybridge were My Ideas for the project,.......

Ayuh,........ Solid as a Rock,....... I believe it's from the concave Bottom....

It weighs about 13 tons empty,...And we've loaded it up with just over 18 tons.....
Even with 500hp,... It's a displacement hull,.....
Loaded, or empty, you can run it at about 8mph,.... at 9mph the nose starts to dip,.... at 10mph the nose starts to Dive.......at 12mph, the decks are Flooded with water running over them.......

You can't beat the physics involved,..... Once you catch up with your Bow Wake,.....
Down is the only direction more power gives you.....;)

Btw,...........
This is the "Summer Cottage" that the barge was built to deliver the pieces too.......

Last appraisal was something Over 2 Mil...........

Dam! I would kill to have something like that. Ever since I was about 3 months old, I have been REALLY interested in heavy equipment. Growing up on a construction site (dad being the 1 and only worker) really furthered that love for machinery. Now, having been introduced to boating as well, and loving all aspects of it, that would be the ultimate toy for me. Sweet. Gonna hafta build me one of those in ten years.

Bide your time BB,.... Don't Rush it,.. Time will Fly as you get older......

That Barge is the columation of a 30 year old Dream of Mine.......
I'm just Thankful that I knew a man with the Money,+ the Need for the Vessel of My Vision.......
It started as a Homemade Pontoon boat Idea, that I expanded into a Massive Barge project......

Next step... a snorkel and ballast system.;)

You guys should consider building some for sale. There are lots of uses for a nice piece of equipment like that around my neck of the woods.

I like SCAATY's idea too; imagine looking fore as a group of ladies in a wet t-shirt contest replace the paving machine and roller on deck.:p

Dude,I've got a whole new respect for you.I thought I was "The man" for wet-sanding my rig.I think building that mean machine from scratch "Trumps" me!
BTW-I think you meant 450 HP instead of 500.I have the same set on my offshore rig and absolutly love them.Good choice for re-power.

Yep, great idea on the rams...plus now ya have a clean deck, no tripping into the drink with the cables:eek:
You seem pretty dangerous with a torch, a beer, and an idea!:D
Life is fun when ya have something to work on. Some people just play, I enjoy the B, S, T thats go into it, beforehand...something ya built will make ya a lot prouder than a "see what I bought"
