Remember: The weight of the trailer is also on the springs and tires so the capacity of the trailer needs to be the weight of the boat and all the crap you have in it plus the weight of the trailer. (GAVW) For example: My 3,800 pound capacity (GAVW) trailer weighs just shy of 1,000 pounds so the boat I can carry can be up to 2,900 pounds. You must also include the weight of the trailer in figuring the towing capacity of the tow vehicle. Most newer trailers will have both numbers (gross and net) on the vehicle capacity plate.
