Water in Oil Again

1975 SeaRay 888 Ford 302 V8 with 351W heads.

Had water in oil, found cracked block between cylinders 1 and 2, found blown gasket between 7 and 8. New gaskets to include the exhaust and risers all the way to the elbow.

Replaced block, remanufactured heads, same intake, same cam.

Checked exhaust manifolds (they looked okay).....ran water through the exhaust risers, did not have any leaking back through the cylinder bolt on ports.

Where else could this water be coming from while running the boat on muffs?

Are you sure your intake manifold is not cracked? May want to pressurise your coolant system to check for leaks.

Personally, I would have replaced the exhaust manifolds and risers with a new engine too.

Are you getting water on top of the pistons now?....And it's hydrolocking a bit when you restart it?

If you have a cracked exhaust manifold, cracked riser or poor sealing surfaces where the riser gaskets go, water will run back in thru an open exhaust valve after shut down.

What do you AV8 in Alaska?

Rick

Just an update guys.......

.....had manifolds and risers pressure tested and found one riser leaking badly....luckily the guys had a good used riser that I was able to pick up for this old tub....

riser installed and after appx 10 hrs of running no water in oil.....what a beautiful sight.......after 3 months of fighting.......

yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

To me the cost of replacing the exhaust is minimal when putting a new motor in. Exhaust doesn't last forever and it's a good way to ruin a brand new motor. It's worth the extra expense just to be sure.

Uh...."work for FEDEX"?

Just buy yourself a new set of manifolds. 95yj is right. Using used manifolds is a sure way to destroy that engine quickly.

Boat is a goner in the spring anyway....don't want to put more money into it than I have to. Gonna start shopping for a newer one over the winter. Boat is only worth $1500.....

I am actually looking at Four Winns and a few others......
