I just bought a 3.5 Viking model 34021 serial 2281.The motor runs great but i need to replace the carberator gaskets a it's leaking fuel.Where can i get parts to fit it in Canada? What is the gas mix ratio for this motor also?I don't no to much about outboards but is it fairly simple to replace these.
Hope somebody can help me.
Thanks Craig.

Re: 3.5 viking help

Your Viking is a 1970, made by Chrysler. It is 3.5hp. If my suspicions are correct it is air cooled? Have cooling fins on the cylinder? If that's the one you have, it is a pretty decent motor. In fact, it is one of the few air cooled outboards that are worth a hoot. I am not smart enough to know where to look for parts in Canada. But there must be sources up there. Mercury was the last company to own Chrysler so try a Merc dealer.

Re: 3.5 viking help

I fixed the leaky gasket myself with a homemade silcone rubber gasket worked fine.
I have another guestion it seems that there is still gas seating in the carb after i shut it off and when i move the motor it pours out the choke value port.Is there anything i can do to stop this?
Thanks.

Re: 3.5 viking help

the shut off valve probably has replaceable washers and I would try that. If it leaking into the carb then I suspect the float if sunk or the needle valve is stuck keeping it open. It would need a rebuild then or live with it if it runs good otherwise. Don't see how it could if the needle valve is stuck open. It would probably run okay at full throttle, but not at idle.

Re: 3.5 viking help

Are you saying the gas runs out when you lay the motor down? That is normal. The cure is to turn the fuel valve off and run the motor till it quits, before taking it off the boat.

Re: 3.5 viking help

I tried shutting the fuel off and run it dry,she will spit and sputter and evenualy die out. Then if i leave it for awhile and turn the motor back and forth inside the barrel of water the gas seeps out off the choke on the carb. It's almost like the gas shut off value is not total closing, but not enough to keep her running when shut off.As posted i may have to live with it as the motor does seem to work pretty good other than that.

Re: 3.5 viking help

Sounds like two things happening. One, the shut off valve is not shutting off completely. Compare to a dripping faucet. Secondly, the carb should not drip even if you were to leave the shut-off turned on. You have a slow leak in the float valve.
