I have an '87 Mercruiser/4.3 that starts and runs well, but stops, displaying all guages in 'off' position (as if the key was turned off). Give it (don't have to touch anything) 5 or 10 seconds and the guages pop back up to normal, the engine will start (when the key is turned) up and seems happy! It seemed to be less likely to act up if we ran with the engine cover open to allow more airflow. Will problems with the (thunderbolt IV) ignition module cause this?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

From one cadet to another. I don't know if you have solved this yet but it seems to me a possible electric problem. Some circuit breakers are thermally resettable. So if you have one of these somewhere and it gets overloaded it will open up and kill power downstream. Then in a few seconds it will cool off and reclose.

good luck.

Welcome to iboats.....:)
You have an electrical problem.....
Get yourself a DVM & go through your system.....
You have a loose or corroded connection somewhere...
Start with cleaning your battery terminals & work outward.....;)

Old Post guys

Since the original poster only has 1 post, I doubt he ever looks at it anymore.
