Im not positive, never had a 60's myself, but ive heard laingsoutboards.com] is a good supplier for the older models. GL Im sure one of the other guys will jump in with another idea.

I have several of those 10's. They're great engines. Take the carb apart, make sure you get a new float. Soak or spray everything in carb cleaner and then put it back together! Make sure you pop out the little dime sized plug on the top of the carb and clean the 'lil holes below it... then use a drift punch to set the new plug in that came in your kit...

It will take you longer to re and re the carb then it will to put the kit on!

Re: 10 hp Johnson QD-21

Help!! I got the carb kit, manual and float ,put them in and the motor started but no water was coming out. Looks like I need an impeller now. Started to take the lower unit apart and the lower unit gears look good but I could not get at the the impeller. Pulled on the spacer where it is housed and got it to come but the shaft stayed in place. How do I get the shaft out?? Looks like I might have dammaged the housing! Does anyone know where I can get one. Also I looked thru the peep hole on the flywheeland the piots look good but the coils look funny. They look like they are cracked? Are they suuposed to look like this. Do I need a special tool to get the flywheel off?? HELP!! What a project!!

You need a puller to get the flywheel off and a torque wrench to properly put it back on.

A vibration damper puller (from an auto parts store) will work as a puller. When you put the new coils in, the ends of the laminated cores must be flush with the machined edges of the posts they sit on. Points are to be clean and set to .020" gap at their widest opening. The shaft and flywheel tapers must be clean and dry and torque the nut to 40-45 ft/lbs. Oh, another handy tool is a strap wrench to hold the flywheel when wrenching on the nut. You can make your own there.

FR,

Got a puller from the auto parts store and a strap wrench. It still does not want to come off. anymore ideas, I tightened the puller as much as possible.

Give the center screw on the puller a solid whack with a hammer. Sometimes that's all it takes to get the flywheel to "pop".

That's good you got it off. Now if the coils are cracked, toss em and replace em with the new ones. The ignition system is simple, put good parts in and it'll run great.
