OMC Adhesive M Sealant?

My local dealer ran out of OMC Adhesive M Sealant, and it will be a week before he gets more in. He couldn't offer me any suggestions, but I need to replace my water pump, and it asks for Adhesive M Sealant. I have some 3M Marine Grade Silicone Sealant. Will this work, or am I needing something different? I believe it's just to seat the O-rings in the pump housing.

Any reliable automotive parts store, or even Wal*Mart, K-Mart, etc would have "Boat Armor Sealer 1000" which is the same substance. THere's some other brand names which is the same substance buit the names escape me. Perhaps someone else will jump in here with those names.

There is also something called Super Blue (I think). I used it in the past.

Check with an auto supply house that distributes 3M products. It is called 3M type 847 adhesive/sealer.

yes its just to set the oring so it wont come dislodged when sliding over impeller,personally .i ve used grease 4 yrs,once you get the oring in place kinda pack it in w/grease.be sure to turn the drive shaft while sliding the housing over the impeller,I like the grease because it makes for an easier cleaner job next yr,or use anything that wont hurt the oring

OMC Type M doesn't exist anymore, since OMC doesn't exist. It has been replaced by BRP Adhesive (3M Scotch-Grip Rubber & Gasket Adhesive #847) P/N 776964. I have looked all over town and couldn't find it except at Grainger. They had to order it and had it next day. I also noticed you can order from McMaster-Carr and get it next day. You can order it online from ishopmarine.com but it'll cost twice as much as from Grainger or McMaster.
