To prevent total nut cases from giving their kids names that will cause them problems throughout their entire life. Like these idiots in New Zealand are doing....

A New Zealand couple is looking to call their newborn son Superman -- but only because their chosen name of 4Real has been rejected by the government registry.

Pat and Sheena Wheaton say they will get around the decision by the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages by officially naming their son Superman but referring to him as 4Real, the New Zealand Herald newspaper has reported.

The Wheatons decided on the name after seeing the baby for the first time in an ultrasound scan and realising their baby was "for real".

They decided 4Real was the best way to write it, but the name was rejected because the registrar said a name had to be a sequence of characters.

Pat Wheaton said he was considering appealing against the decision through the courts, but whatever happens he won't be budged on his choice.

"No matter what its going to stay 4Real," Wheaton told the Herald, "I'm certainly not a quitter".

A spokesman for the Department of Internal Affairs, which operates the registry told the Herald discussions with the Wheatons about their son's name were continuing.

The baby is now two months old, after the Wheatons first applied to register his name in later June.

This is only one of the reasons that doctors warn against drug use during pregnancy!

Retards shouldn't reproduce, it queers the gene pool, and no amount of chlorine will clean it out.

Re: Why some countries have a baby name registry...

There are thousands of people in this world who have legally changed their names and maybe millions who are know by names other than the ones on their birth records or by a middle name. Even Douglas MacArthur's son legally changed his name to protect his privacy. Others of us abandon our given names in favor of initials to avoid confusion with namesakes.

I like the traditions of many native American cultures who abandon the names given at birth in favor of names relating to significant events, accomplishments, visions, or characteristics. The Lakota warrior who was born Curley became Crazy Horse after distinguishing himself in battle.

In my family we give new children names from their heritage. Each of my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren bears at least one name from an ancestor or significant person from their family heritage.

I have no problem with people who want to name their offspring R2D2. I believe they have that right, but I also believe that those children have a right to choose how they want to be addressed and to make that legal when they become of age.

So you are saying that the children should suffer all through their childhood because their parents thought it was cute to name their kid R2D2 or Superman? How about giving the kid a name that will not cause him/her to get beat up every recess and then decide when they are older if they want to be "Crazy Horse" or "Cher" or "(stupid font from the artist formally known as Prince)". You see, those people listed who changed their names were ADULTS when they did it. They did not have to go through childhood with a bizzare name.

Ask any psychiatrist about it. You will find out it is tantamount to child abuse.

Then don't name your kids something you deem 'wierd'.....
But I don't think that you or the Gubmint should tell me what is an acceptable name.....
Some of the names I hear every day make me roll my eyes.....
IE, Tawana, Ta Shika, Le Bron.....
Well, you get my drift.....
What if you are Chinese & they name you Wang?.....
I'd wager that would be perfectly acceptible in China, why not here?.....
Big Gubmint should but out on this one, IMHO.....

I once named my cat Askhim. It was always fun when some one would ask what his name was.

Something else when ever I think of a name for a child or pet I allways think of what I would be willing to stand on the side of the street yelling his/her name when i was mad or looking for them.

Re: Why some countries have a baby name registry...

Bro Haut is right on the money here: Mark. Liberals usually use the "it's for the children" and find the lowest common denominator from the t**ds in the sewers somewhere nearby with the help of their best friends: the MSM, (that's main stream media), to drum up the dim wits to call fer more Gubmint.

It works every time. THAT'S NOT A GOOD THING: MARK

NZ is a very liberal place, n' the subjects' rights are SUBJECT to any mindless laws the Libs can dream up fer any reason but usually: "it's for the children".

I think any dim wit should be able to call their child anything they want, (I don't like the idea of kids called dog sh** being abused before they turn 18, [or whatever the age of majority is]), but I don't have this urge to cede ANY of my perogatives over my life to a bureauocrat because of the actions of a total door knob livin' in the sewer someplace the sensitive dim wit Libs get their feelings all energized over, (due to the Kool aid dispensed by the Libs friends at the MSM) n' vote to put me under Gubmint Corntrols every time I take a breath of air. Respectfully, JR

If a parent wants to cal their kid 4Real, then they should be able to do that. By the time the parents are done with him, the name will be the least of his problems..

In '84 when we were at the hospital for our daughter's birth one of the nurses asked about names we had picked. We answered "Robert Douglas"or "Nicole Mary Ann".When asked why she told us that a couple the day before had named their son "Friend Lee". I mentioned to my wife that he would probably catch a LOT of carp growing up.It's just sad.

Re: Why some countries have a baby name registry...

I'm not proponent for gubmint :D intervention in baby names. In fact, I don't know if there is or is not an agency in the US that approves baby names. I really don't care.

I'm just pointing out that countries that DO have departments to review names, did so justifiably, as supported by those two idiots in New Zealand.

Here in the US, I feel we should allow people to name their kids what they want. Then use the worst cases as examples to the rest of the US as what not to do.

I also believe it is the responsibility of your peers (friends, relatives, co-workers, teachers, preachers, neighbors, etc) to point out what a complete a-s-s you are for naming your kid "4real" or "R2D2" any other asinine name. Lets save the tax payer money for something else.
