I have a 1991 Yamaha which has always been a great runner although lately it will lose power and sometimes die. When it has bogged I grab the fuel bulb and pump, it feels like there is little to no fuel in the line until I pump it back up. The motor then clears up and runs fine for maybe 10 minutes then I have to go through the same procedure again. Does this sound like a pick up issue?

sounds like a lift pump issue. keep running it lean and you will be amazed at how much it costs.
without a model number I cant say much more as the Vmax 200 was made in several configurations over the years.

200 TLRP is not a vmax. its a 2.6L with trim,remote control and a 20" shaft.
replace both lift pumps and replace the diaphrams and gaskets in the primer pump.
by squeezing the primer bulb your simply taking place of the fuel pump, the carbs dont care how the fuel got in the bowl. the pistons care if there is not enough.

I'm sorry, you're right, it's a ProV not a Vmax. I did replace the fuel pumps 2 years ago, do they go out this often? I'm not familiar with the primer pump though I'll have to check. Thanks for the help

areyou sure its a proV? if so the model will be P200,vmax will start V200. see the pattern?
if its just a 200tlrp its a standard model.
should have 2 lift pumps I dont think the 200 had the enrichment pump only the 225.

Says ProV on the hood. Motor is all original. Does that sound right that the pumps would go that fast? I only go through about 60-80 gallons a season

It does sound like a Fuel restriction problem. The pro V had a horizantal front half and the regular 200 had a vertical. Neither had the primer system, but used chokes.
In either case, the likely cause is a fuel restriction and could be the fuel pumps or carbs.

could a fuel/water separator cause this by chance?

Yup! Get a 6 gallon tank, hook it up to the motor and go for a run. Problem goes away......it's the fuel system on the boat. If no change, ya need fuel pressure gauge hooked up on the outlet of pump and a vacum gauge inline with the incoming fuel line. Go run it.....tell me your numbers or just keep replacing parts.:D

At the first signs of a fuel restriction, replace the fuel water seperator filter.
I have poured the contents into a glass jar to see if water is there, but even if not. The filter was often the problem.
