HI, I bought a 1973 eska 9.9 seacruiser model 1933 A, the carburater has gas in it but its not going through to be fired, it will hit every now and then and try to run for a second and thats it, i took the carb off it looks okay and it looks like it had a carb kit put in it, can anybody tell me what i need to do. The man i bought it from said it needs a impeller put in to, can anybody tell me how to put one in. thanks lexx3003

Your motor is a 73.You should really be working with a manual. You may
find one at the library. There are also many aftermarket manuals that cover many brands of small outboards.Does it have spark? How do the plugs look.Try to carefully squirt fuel mix into the carb if she fiires up then most likely you need to go through the carb.Be sure all passages and jets are clean and prove it.Be sure the float is set right.

i put some gas with the plugs and it hits, but i hooked the gas tank back up to it and started squeezing the bulb till it got tight and gas started shooting out this little hole on the carb and overflowing out the choke, when the gas goes down or i wait a few minutes it will try to start but will not run, if its flooding what could be causing this. Ive had the carb off cant find nothing wrong it look like they had a carb kit put in it. Lexx3003:confused:

Re: Need help for eska 9.9

Go to eBay and type in Eska outboard. Look at the stores. There's a guy who sells repair manuals for your outboard. You need one. certifiedpartscorp.com has all the parts, but you have to call the number on the site.

I have one of those 9.9s in my garage. It runs on one cylinder. It's hopeless, since the part I need will cost more than the outboard is worth. If you can get yours running by rebuilding the carburetor (that website has kits), then you'll get some use out of it.

But check to make sure you're getting spark on both cylinders. If you're not, you're going to have a dead outboard, since that's my problem, and the problem of a heckuva lot of Eska 9.9 owners. The parts are not available, and if you find them, they cost more than the outboard.

Float setting is done by placing a number drill between the float and carb
body The size drill depends on the powerhead series. Just too involved to explain here.Besides that proper carb service procedures take a page and a
half of text and illustrations.Unfortunately I'm pretty sure you won't find anyone with first hand experience with these motors.Try the library for that
manual. There are a number of procedures that are unique to these carbs.
Again most likely you have gunk in the jets or passages in the carb.
squeeze bulb only until firm.don't flood.
If you squirt gas into the carb and it fires you prove the induction system works(reed valves etc.) And you prove carb isn't supplying gas.
About 50% of the time when folks go back and double check the jets and passages they are successful. If carb is flodding the motor the plugs will appear wet.
Have you checked spark. Is it blue and can you here it snap?

Re: Need help for eska 9.9

i found the book on ebay. I squirted gas into the carb and it fireed up for a second, i put it in gear an turned the throttle a little bit and it fired up and ran for a little bit then it shut back down like it ran out of gas. I took took it out of gear and turned the throttle back to idle and pulled the rope and it started for a second and died. ive had the carb off five times cleaning every port hole in it. Its getting fire good, but when i turn the throttle open a little it will run a little bit but i have to start it in gear to get the throttle to turn. Its had a carb kit put in it and looks good, maybe i need another carb, if i do need another carb does anybody know where i could find one? Thanks guys Lexx3003

If it fires and runs a little it may just be a fuel supply problem.Perhaps the fuel pump.Disconnect the line at the carb put the end in a can and carefully crank it over.Gas should pulse strongly into the can.

It is a pressurized tank and bulb type could there be something wrong with the tank and bulb not holding pressure?

If it is a single line tank and uses a primer bulb in the line then it has a fuel pump.Just checked it does indeed have a fuel pump.It will have 3 lines a crankcase pressure line(to pulse the pump), a gas in and a gas out.
