Hey guys

1978 vintage evinrude tilt trim on a 115hp evenrude. The Tilt/Trim is not working.

I have topped off the fluid.

The motor runs both ways and I can see some attempts at movement up and down.

The tilt ram does not move but will move manually.

One trim ram works mostly, the other is extended and does not move.

I can move the engin up and down with some effort.

My guess is I need to go thru and replace the seals and orings or replace the unit.

Any thoughts from the experts?

Thanks

I had the same problem with my 1993 115hp.There are two relays in a plastic
box on the back of the motor that I replaced and it works great now. They are
square in shape.I don't know if it is the same in yours.

Additionally, I can press with the palm of my hand on the left trim ram and force it down, and the right one will come out, and I can do the same ont he right ram forcing the left one out.

I took the pin out of the tilt ram where it connects to the motor and it does not move, at least very much. It doesnt move when I manually move the trim rams.

Hook it all back up and let the motor rest on the trim rams, and nothing, they dont go down by tehmselves but the tilt ram does go down, until hits the trim rams. I can then press the motor down all the way and it will stay down.

Motor runs and sounds different when going up or down, battery is hot.

Fluid is fine.

I think the electronics are okay cause it does move the trim rams, at least the left one in and out.

Out of options here.

Have you checked the manual release valve, sounds like it isn't tight?

Yes I checked it several times. Its as tight as I can get it. Unless its screwed up sealing wise, I think it is okay.

Its a lot like fluid is moving between the two trim cylinders but not affecting the tilt cylinder or something like that.

When I press on one trim ram the other comes outand vice versa, but under the motor power the right one will extend but not go back in and the left one will go in and out.

The tilt cylinder will go down with the outboard motor like draining down but does not move with the tilt motor.

I might add I dont see any fluid leaking anywhere except where I have spilt some or where I was topping off the reservoir. I especially dont see any from the relief valve.
