I have a 48" JVC HDTV that does not have any 'Audio Out' slots on the unit. It has a dozen audio input slots, but no output. I bought a pair of wireless headphones for it so I can watch TV after the kids go to bed. Is there any way to set up a pair of wireless headphones on a TV without an output jack? The headphones have the standard A/C cable with the red and white cable leads. Also, the unit has a thing called 'Smart Input' for receivers. Anyone heard of it?

Is there any way to hook up to a receiver to have the sound transfered to the receiver?

Best bet is if you can hook the headphones up to the source unit (cable or satellite box).

If you are using an antennae, you are probably out of luck.

That sure seems stange? Is it posible they are mis-labled? I've seen strager things come from over seas. Eveyone I've seen has the standard RCA plugs Yellow white red for Video.left.right

hard to believe a newer tv would have zero audio outputs, but who knows.

easiest thing to skip the tv and send your audio from the cable box to a receiver. it's actually the preferred method since most tv's don't handle audio well anyway. you can then do what you want with the audio.

I don't have a cable box since I run off of straight cable, but could I get a receiver that handles cable and work it that way?

What is the model number on that television? I have checked JVC's website and the 48" projos I have looked at all have stero audio output, and some even have a subwoofer output in addition to that. I dont think I have seen an HD capable TV without an audio output yet................and I have seen lots of TVs.

You could run the cable through a stereo VCR and watch TV through that and just plug in you wireless headphones to that. The Picture quality will be greatly compromised, which will be magnified on an HD set of that size.

Most cable companies give you a box for practically nothing. If you live in an area with Digital cable, I would really suggest that (requires box). It will give you a better picture at least (SD and HD if available assuming you are using at least component cables), and enable you to get actual surround sound since most boxes have either digital coax or optical outputs.

I think I've solved my problem. I was at Wal-Mart tonight, and a light went off in my head. I thought ..... why can't I use an RF Modulator to tap into? I found one with an Audio Out, and I think I'm set. :)

Re: JVC HD TV audio output dilemna.

If you tap an RF modulator inline BEFORE the TV how will the modulator know what channel you are on? Since you're not using a tuner box the TV has to do the channel selection thus an RF won't solve your problem. You would have to have a special VCR with a HDTV tuner in it to use the VCR's audio output in this situation too.

If you'll let us know what model TV you have we can at least find some specs on it and help you find a solution!

I dont think that is the case.......you could just change channels with the VCR which would switch the audio as well. i.e. Keep the TV at channel 3 and turn the VCR on. Video quality would be poor at best.........but that isnt the issue here. If what you are suggesting was the case it would be pretty difficult to record TV on a VHS.....and still watch something else or even turn off the tv.

The TV should have an NTSC and ATSC tuner.......so the VCR thing would be the same as any other TV.

Are you sure that you checked everywhere for the audio outs. They are generally on the front of the television, if not on the front by the program buttons they are usually on the front edge of either side. I find it hard to believe that a newer HD tv doesn't have audio outs, unless it was several hundreds or thousands of $ cheaper than everything else compareable. IMHO

I don't see him using any old cheap analog VCR to tune his HDTV set.... Yes he could hook any old 20.00 vcr up and get horrid picture quality as well as audio out of it but he wasted alot of money on a High Def tv to use a 20.00 vcr to tune it. If he's going that route he would be better off selling his fancy HD tv and getting a cheap 27" tv of any type to tune analog programming.

Re: JVC HD TV audio output dilemna.

Why dont you see him doing that? He is already compromising his picture quality by not using a digital set top box.....already using analog. An anolog VCR isnt going to be much worse than that. If he cared about video qulity that much he have a cable set top box and cable wouldnt be an issue because he would be using component or hdmi.

I have already noted that the video quality would be "poor at best"......some people don't care about that. He seems intent on simply being able to watch tv when everyone else has gone to bed. Most people have an old VCR laying around anyways, so this solution (though not the best) is something he could use to get by. You suggested he NEEDED an HD tuner VCR, and thats not the case.

Fact is the best solution is a set top box. But that is his choice. If he just wants to watch tv when everyone else is sleeping and doesnt care about picture quality, he has that option.

Is that wasting an HD TV? Maybe.......but I bet it looks good when watching a movie or playing vidor games etc. Maybe he uses it for that 80% of the time.......we just dont know.

YEah, the RF modulator didn't work. :)

The model is a JVC AV-48WP55 . The TV was on Clearance at at local vendor, and I got it for $600 New. I can't complain, but I know it was a first generation model so I can't complain for that price.

I can honestly say that I do not have a spare vcr lying around anywhere. :D Call me crazy, but I threw them all away probably close to 7 years ago, and haven't had the need for one since. I don't care too much about the video quality when running my headphones since all I watch are mainly History Channel shows, Discovery, and TV Land with some late night Andy Griffith. :) The only time I care about picture quality is when I'm watching movies.

Re: JVC HD TV audio output dilemna.

Features:

* Selectable VSM
* Velocity scan modulation
* Digital noise clear circuitry
* 81-point manual convergence
* Six aspect modes
* EZ fill
* Hyper-surround sound
* Smart Input
* Two component video, three S-video , four A/V inputs
* Fixed audio output
* Trilingual menu
* On-screen display
* Sleep timer
* Closed captioning

I'm pretty darn sure you have RCA jack audio outputs from that set. I found "Fixed audio outputs" listed for this set on a couple different sites including JVC. So you wouldn't be able to control the volume with your TV remote but if you get headphones with their own amp/volume control you should be set. I spent way too much time researching this because I just KNEW there was no way they made a set of that size recently with no audio out. They'd be getting a lot of returns.

The only 'Fixed Audio Output' I have is the speakers built into the case. I have searched high and low, and there is no place that says 'Audio Out'. Trust me .... it's doesn't exist on this model. :)

Re: JVC HD TV audio output dilemna.

It' starting to sound like you should goto bed with the kids and give up late night TV. We all seem to have a hard time believing there are no audio outputs. It sounds lke that horse is dead.
Your only other options would be an external device like a DVD or cable box. Or if you're brave open it up and add a switching head phone plug to the speaker connection. I wouldn't recomend this unless you;re very comfortable this type of repair.
Good excuse for a new TV.

I'll take pics tomorrow if I can get them to show up in the lighting, and show everyone what connections I have. :)

Page 9 of the manual shows 2 rca jacks for the audio out just left of the audio inputs. You may have to use an external amp to feed you headphones.

Hope this helps.
