Hi All, It was time to have a good look over my 1980 9.9 Johnson. The one thing that started me on this quest was that I had a lot of black oil and crap coming out the end of the prop, and also the water drain on the lower unit. I dropped the oil out of the lower unit after filling and taking it out on the water and there was no water or discoloration with the oil. I then dropped the whole lower unit off the shaft to have a look at the impeller, etc. When I removed the lower unit there was a whole bunch of Oil and Gunk (sludge almost) all over the inside of the housing. I am kind of thinking that I have an exhaust port issue but am not sure. I would like to know what I should be looking into for this, weather it be gaskets or whatever. Can someone point me in the right direction, that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
