Hey everyone, this is my first post, I really hope someone can help. I need to replace my trim motor and rebuild the valve body on my Fastrak trim/tilt system (1993 Evinrude 200 Oceanrunner). I was able to remove the top pin after some work, but I am at a loss when it comes to the bottom one. I have searched this site and read the threads others have posted and tried what was suggested with no results. I have been beating on a punch with an 8lb sledge hammer, applied heat (mapp gas) and beat some more and I don't think I have moved it a thousandth of an inch. I don't know what to do now. The only other thing I read on this site was to seperate one half of the motor bracket. The pin does seem to rotate in the bracket portion, so this may work. My quuestion is, can this be done with the engine attached to the boat or do I have to remove it? Also, if anyone could provide some instructions for this procedure, it would be very helpful as the Clymer manual seems pretty useless for this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Chris

Re: Fastrak removal help

Anyone that has done this feels your pain, as i do. They can be a real sunnofa to remove, its not just yours ;) First of all, after slamming it with a hammer and puch, you're sure to have mushroomed the end a bit, making it impossible to remove. Puch the end that you want to eventually slide through out , and file it down to a bit of a taper if you will. Soak it in penetrating oil, then hammer at it with a punch. You may need to repeat this process over a couple days if it is really bad. Once the first few inches gets started, it slides much easier. Gl

As far as removoing the port side stern bracket, you may need to to remove the trim unit, as it will not slide out unless you do. Slide it to the left, disconnect the steering and the trim unit will come out.

Re: Fastrak removal help

We've run into this before. We remove the motor and support it other than by the mounting brackets. Hang from a hoist most of the time. The pin is usually, as you suspect, stuck in the trim unit, not the mount brackets. Once you pull the bracket off one side you'll be able to remove the unit easily. Actually you probably won't worry about removing the pin from the unit. Just repair it and reinstall. As long as the pin moves in the brackets it'll be just fine.

Re: Fastrak removal help

Thanks for the help. I guess it's time to remove the engine brackets. I don't have a hoist but I can probably borrow one. I am assuming that since I have used the torch on the trim unit that it needs to be either completely rebuilt or replaced. Any thoughts??? Thanks again.

Re: Fastrak removal help

I just replaced a motor on a 99 johnson tilt/trim unit. the lower pin in mine had a snap ring on each side that was hidden in a lot of crud. removed snap rings and pin came right out.
