Does anyone know how this is supposed to come off? It appears to just be friction fit. I've tried putting the heat gun on it and gently prying. I really don't want to bust it!
It's a 1970 40 HP Merc

The later 400 the rotor was held with loctite and to get it off without breaking it you had to use a puller after removing the stator you use 2 srews or bolts that are 10-32 by 3 1/2" thru a flat plate puller, the bolts screw into the distributer body and the puller pushes on the crankshaft and you pull the dist. body that takes the rotor off the shaft - piece of cake

Thanks Ladies....ignore my above most I wrote it before I saw you replied. You're answer was more of what I was looking for.....the way to do it right. I wouldn't recommend the two jaw puller bit. It squeezes on the tits and is risky. I got lucky and it worked.
Thanks again for helping.
